Low-Guilt Summer Diet

Wednesday, July, 23, 2008

The water was really cold at Bash Bish Falls last weekend, but I knew I would regret walking away (hiking uphill, actually) without jumping in. The effect was magical: I hadn’t gone swimming in my clothes in years (a tank top and sport skirt). The current from the 60-foot cascade didn’t allow real swimming in the pond, but trying to paddle against it (and just holding my ground) was a lot of fun.

Swimming below a waterfall is just one part of my new summer diet, and I love how it looks on me already!

This is the formula I’m following: weigh every experience for its potential to inspire guilt and/or regret, and consume accordingly.

That means walking to the ice cream stand after dinner on a hot night is a GO, but agonizing over cleaning the car vs going to the beach is a NO GO.

Slipping into a cute summery outfit in the morning is a GO, but stepping on the scale (and anticipating a day of guilt) is a NO GO.

The result: fewer stress-induced wrinkles and crow’s feet, better sleep and an improved appetite for fun and adventure. Try it!

Swimming under a waterfall - how fun! I like your attitude, I think I'll try your "summer diet" on for size myself. Thanks!
