Oh, the humanity

Wednesday, November, 26, 2008

It keeps me up at night to think of reality, like what did or did not happen to Natalee Holloway. I watched videos of Joran's confession--whether it is true or not--and I can hardly keep the vomit down. How do people exist who can push aside empathy? How can people push aside their feelings of compassion for another human being? Are we not all human? I just don't understand.

I know that there's a scale, and that some things mean more to some people than others. For some, like Joran, it is money that will make you forget about the human. For others, it is sensation. For most people, I think, it's fear. And I know we all have our line and a point where we will betray others. Is this human nature? Am I really naive? How can you protect your children from people who don't value lives other than their own? Is there a way?
